Practice Information
YMCA Athletic Park, Field 3 – not the YMCA building. See Map below.
(904 65th Ave, Myrtle Beach SC 29577, gate at 67th will be closed for safety.)
Athletes should wear cleats (not metal), shin protection, and comfortable clothes and bring a full water bottle for hydration.
Practices may include information sharing, hand-outs, stretching, warm-up, skills games and drills, scrimmage, and cool-down.

Games
Games are usually scheduled on Saturdays at YMCA Athletic Park. YMCA Athletic Park, Field 1 – not the YMCA building. See map below.

The game schedule is posted on the Home Page. One game each season is scheduled on a weekday afternoon.
Athletes should wear cleats (not metal), shin protection, and the YMCA provided uniform and bring a full water bottle for hydration. Guidance on reversible jerseys is provided for each game entry on the Home Page calendar.

U8 YMCA Soccer Rules
U8 Soccer rules are based on FIFA Laws of the Game, with the following modifications for our YMCA program:
Law I – The Field
- Dimensions: 35 yards by 25 yards.
- A halfway line is marked across the field.
- Center circle: 5-yard radius.
- No goal area is marked.
- Goal size: 6 feet high by 12 feet wide.
Law II – The Ball
Size 3.
Law III – Number of Players
- Maximum number of players on the field at any one time is 5, including the goalkeeper.
- Maximum number of players on the roster should not exceed 10.
- Substitutions: Anytime the ball is out of play with permission of the referee.
- Playing time: Each player should play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time.
Law IV – Players' Equipment
Conforms to FIFA except tennis shoes or soft‑cleated soccer shoes are accepted. Shin guards are mandatory.
Law V – The Referee
- One referee.
Law VI – Linesman
Not necessary.
Law VII – Duration of the Game
- Four 10‑minute quarters.
- Two‑minute break after 1st and 3rd quarters.
- Five‑minute break between halves.
Law VIII – The Start of Play
Conforms to FIFA except opponents must be 5 yards from the center mark while kick‑off is in progress.
Law IX – Ball In and Out of Play
Conforms to FIFA, including throw‑ins, corner kicks, and goal kicks.
Law X – Method of Scoring
Conforms to FIFA.
Law XI – Off‑Side
No off‑sides.
Law XII – Fouls and Misconduct
- Conforms to FIFA with these exceptions: all fouls result in an indirect free kick with the opponent 5 yards away.
- The referee/coach/parent must explain all infractions to the offending player.
Law XIII – Free Kicks
All free kicks are indirect. Opponents must be 5 yards away before the kick is taken.
Law XIV – Penalty Kicks
No penalty kicks.
Law XV – Throw‑In
Conforms to FIFA, except the opponent must be 5 yards away from the ball.
Law XVI – Goal Kick
Conforms to FIFA except opponents must fall back to the halfway line.
Law XVII – Corner Kick
Conforms to FIFA except opponents must be 5 yards away from the ball.
Addendums
- No heading. Restart on infraction is an indirect free kick at the spot of the deliberate header.
- No punting. Restart on infraction is an indirect free kick at the spot of the punt.
- Retreat rule: all opposing players must retreat behind the mid‑field line on all goal kicks and when the goalkeeper has the ball in their hands following a save.
